French Colonial House Plans

One of the four architectural styles during the colonial period, French Colonial was typically used by French settlers in America. These homes were framed with heavy, vertical logs and included brick or bousillage (a mixture of mud, animal hair and moss). Different from typical Colonial architecture, French Colonial would include exterior stairs to a porch whereby the porch roof is a part of the main roof. The porches would access the interior through French doors with small glass panes. The roof was typically steep hipped with dormers or side-gabled, with a stucco exterior finish. This style is prominent in Louisiana. Other colonial architecture styles include Dutch Colonial, Spanish Colonial and Georgian. This style may be the perfect choice for your new home.
